No one’s doubting the fact that Raghavendra Rao has his strengths – most of which revolved around building up intense drama while drawing out some memorable performances from his cast. However, it is hard to imagine him connect with an audience that is increasingly being exposed to slicker screenplay, edgy camera work, smart-ass dialogue delivery, and on the whole, younger issues. Indeed, Jhummandi Naadam looks like a farce of everything that you can think of.

The story revolves around the dreams of Balu (Manchu Manoj), a small-town bloke who is in the city to become a really big singer. His bachelor pad is right opposite the home of a school principal Rao (Mohan Babu), who hates him and who he hates with equal fervour.

Rao’s friend’s (Suman) daughter Sravya (Taapsee) lands from the US to make a documentary on the musical heritage of Telugu land, and needs a helping hand. Because of the awesomeness of his talent, Balu is picked by Sravya as her music guide, and Rao has to grin and bear it.

As Balu and Sravya hit it off well, Rao tries separating the couple, because he is protective of his best friend’s daughter. Soon, Balu has to sacrifice his love for his career. How the two get together, how the love for music triumphs against all odds, how the younger generation “proves” itself, well, you know the rest of the story by now.

The movie starts off unabashedly like a Manchu family home video, with a musical jugalbandi between Mohan Babu and Manoj, and with other unmistakable signs of family bonding.

The main story of the movie is heroine (Tapasee) is an American born Telugu girl. Even though born in USA, she’s brought up in the usual traditional way. She has been taught all the traditions that the normal Telugu girl back in India knows.

She loves her parents so much. So in order to reciprocate the love for them and for the Telugu culture, she decides to fly to India, to make a documentary on Telugu music and culture and gift the documentary to her parents. She arrives in India and is under the guardianship of Mohan Babu, her father’s best friend, who will take care of her during her stay in India.

Balu (Manoj) aspires to become a big singer and he reachs Hyderabad from Bhadrachalam. His parents (Tanikella Bharani and Sudha) keep high hopes on him. Sravya (Tapsee) is the daughter of a millionaire in the US and she reaches India to do a research on the traditional Telugu music, which includes the folk songs and rural songs. She stays with Captain Rao, a friend of her father (Suman). Sravya and Balu become good friends during her preparation of a documentary and soon love blossoms between them.

However, Captain Rao, who is against love, decides to separate them, When he got an opportunity to take part in the contest, Rao turns a hurdle in Balu’s career. Rao gives an option to choose between love and music and Balu chooses music as he lives and ready to die for music

The life of the noted revolutionary Komaram Bheem will now be seen on the celluloid. The film ‘Komaram Bheem’ which was made an year ago is hitting the screens today. This has Bhupal Reddy in the lead while Mounica is the heroine. The film is directed by Allani Sridhar while the noted music maker Partho Ghosh composed the tunes. The film is an insight into the real life of the tribals and how a revolutionary emerged from them.

S N Pran Rao wrote the script and dialogues. Another specialty of this movie is hero Bhupal wrote the lyrics for the songs himself. Musical scores were rendered by the prominent director Gautham Ghosh. K Bhavani Shankar handled the camera.

But his father (Radha Ravi) fantasizes him to become a cop. He lives up to his father’s words and becomes a sub-inspector in the local police station.

An amiable family, Singam lives at peace with everyone. Obviously their family is respected a lot in the village. Enters Anushka, on a vacation to the village to her grandparents’ house. She comes across Singam and his upright manner and righteous nature attracts her. It’s romance between them.

Usually, the tale of an upright cop largely runs on predictable lines, but director Hari breaks the monotony with an engaging screenplay-riding on the moves and countermoves of the protagonist and antagonist in outscoring each other and also blends a love story and family bonding to attract viewers beyond his target audience. However, glam diva Anushka adds necessary glam quotient and comedy track of Tamil actor Vivek does strike a chord. On the flip side, racy narration eclipses few lapses in the script and particularly the transition of a reluctant cop into a dare devil police officer should have been established better. After donning the role of a social deviant in his previous outings like Athanokkade and Ghatikudu, Suriya is bound to win laurels as an honest cop.

Suriya, a sub-inspector of a small town, is busy settling minor disputes and endears himself to the villagers with his straight-forwardness

Anushka is slim, delectable does a decent job though her role is minimal. Surya is the piece de resistance. He is simply outstanding. The songs give a feeling of déjà vu, maybe Devisri Prasad needs to seriously do some soul searching. The other point that makes the film absorbing is the action scenes, every fight looks authentic and the cinematography is all encompassing. The movie would have been slick, provided it’s chopped by some 15 minutes. The climax never seemed to end. Go for it, to see Suriya in a full length mass, action role of a cop.

Her recent film ‘Karnataka Kiran Bedi’, directed by N Om Prakash Rao, is being dubbed into Telugu as ‘Andhra Kiran Bedi’ and is getting released very soon. Speaking on the occasion, Malasri says, ‘I played chivalrous and romantic heroine in many Telugu films. But for Kannadigas, I am well known as an action heroine. I played as police officer in one of my recent films and Kiran Bedi would be the name which is inspiring for woman police officers. So we chose that name as our title, but it has nothing to do with her. I am also interested in doing Telugu films if I get interesting characters even now. Any how I am very happy for returning to the Telugu film industry even after a 10-year gap.’ Producer and Malasri’s husband Ramu says, ‘The film which was released in Kannada on March 7 is still running with good collections. Almost 25 days of film was shot in Ramoji Film City itself. Presently dubbing works are in progress. We are making efforts to release the film in August.’ Asish Vidyarthi, GV, Mahesh, Parthasarathi, Rangayana Raghu, Sivaparvati, Sakuntala and others are in the cast. Camera is by Vishnuvardhan, action is by Palani Raj, while Hamsalekha would take up re-recording of the Telugu version.

Uday Kiran was a forest officer appointed to wipe out corruption but he faces problems from one of the villains Radharavi. He fights against them and meanwhile meera jasmine is a poor girl and works in Uday Kiran’s house as a computer operator.

Her aim is to become a IPS officer and hero Uday Kiran helps and they both fall in love with each other. Nagendra, another villain is the friend of Uday Kiran and he goes to a college to deliver a speech. He gives a speech about dignity of women and impresses girls.

Surya (Uday Kiran), a forest officer, loves Megha (Meera Jasmine) who wants to become an IPS officer and naturally achieves her goal with the support of Surya. Enters Nagendra ( Richard) an evil personified but in the garb of a good Samaritan. Hr kills his wife Prabhavathi ( Sudarshana Sen) when she comes to know the truth about him. Surya is accused of the murder of Prabha. The rest of the story deals with how Megha, lover of Surya, extricates him from the criminal charges and punishes the guilty.

Suddenly, the lights are switched off and someone kills Nagendra’s wife. The murder is pinned on Surya, who is promptly taken to jail. This leads to Surya’s mother resigning from the post of a judge so that she can fight the case for Surya (however the hell that counts as legal procedure).

Meanwhile, Surya had fallen in love with a colleague Meghana (Meera Jasmine), who, despite having roots in a poor family, dreams of becoming an IPS officer. It is she, by the way, who takes up Surya’s case to hunt down the real murderer.

Then, there is Rambha in a tiny role as Nagendra’s ex-girlfriend – she provides damning evidence that Nagendra is the real murderer of his wife.

Alladista was reportedly based on a novel that Karunanidhi wrote. It may have been a half-decent story – we’ll never know. This is a hasty, messed-up, unskilled dub-job of what was clearly a bad movie even in its original form. The lame lines and the tacky melodrama and violence make this film much less than tolerable.

Plus, there are the virtues of dubbing – there’s been no effort to change the sign boards or all the Tamil signage, and the lip-sync seems to have been merely a formality.

Both Uday Kiran and Meera Jasmine are pleasant to watch. They’re emotive – even Uday Kiran – and it’s pretty saddening to watch them be a part of this tripe. Richard as Nagendran makes do with a few expressons, and could have done with a hair job. Rambha could have been a restorative to the script, but by that time, everyone’s too tired to notice.

The music deserves special mention. The songs are unadulterated acoustic horror, and, by several standards, seem to be the reason the phrase “out of tune” was invented. Except for an item song by Lawrence – which is “good” only because the man’s a real breath of fresh air, with his steps – the rest of the songs are to be heard to be believed. And the editing, like we mentioned, is haphazard, and lead to much of the script being garbled.

In all, this is a film that no number of familiar faces on the posters should lure you into watching. Stay away.

Krishnudu is a pessimist with negative thoughts. Subbaraju plays the role of a positive guy. The story is about how these two guys of contrasting outlook are forced to travel together for the sake of heroine.

Sapan Pasuparthi, who worked as Assistant Director for ‘Ashta Chemma’ is making his directorial debut through this movie.

If you’re trying to be Mr. Bean, the least you can do for your prospective audiences is try and understand the difference between innocent goofiness and downright hideousness. The makers of Pappu, however, aren’t too keen on analytical thinking, going by how much they’re focussed on selling you all the fat – between the ears, that is.

Pappu seems to have been aimed at kids, going by the sheer amount of juvenility it contains. Only, we think – and hope – kids nowadays have better sense, and better taste as well.

Krishnudu plays a jinxed loser called Pappu, whose luck keeps eluding him. After this intellectually-uplifting character sketch is provided to us at a level of painstaking detail that would have filled 3 issues of Tinkle Digest, the story proceeds.

Pappu’s boss’ daughter Radha (Deepika) is kidnapped, and she must be found quick. The boss’ revered swamiji tells him that Radha’s stars aren’t looking too good now, but it is possible to nullify her ill-luck by getting a person with worse luck to help search for her.

So Pappu is made to tag along with the detective Ram (Subbaraju) who’s been appointed to track her down. The goofy antics of Pappu, combined with the constant vexation of Ram, are what are supposed to make the “chase” comical and endearing.

Analysis:

Pappu movie, directed by debutant Sapan Pasuparthi comes up with a pretty interesting plot, but he failed to narrate in a gripping way. When we are making movies like ‘Pappu’, screenplay carries utmost significance which is lacking here. The introduction to Krishnudu is alright since he establishes his character in the first instance, but as the movie progresses, it is not exciting to watch the character since his nature is already established.

‘Pappu’ movie contains few sensibilities like Sai Kiran Adivi’s Vinayakudu’, however, Sapan Pasuparthi failed to make the mark like Sai Kiran Adivi. Krishnudu’s ‘Pappu’ movie is only good in parts with decent humor. Subbaraju has steals the show in this film and in the second half, he even overtakes Krishnudu. The on-screen chemistry between Subbaraju and Krishnudu is very good.

The climax perhaps should have been better and interestingly narrated. The first half is boring and dull where Krishnudu does some juvenile acts. The second focuses around Subba Raju, and the plot where Krishnudu‘s presence adds humor to the story. But that’s not enough to engage the audience as the Pappu movie turns out to be an ordinary film.

Pappu’ is made by a debutant let us not forget the fact. He has tried to make the audience laugh in every scene but doesn’t quite do it but tries to for a large extent. It is an entertainer but minor flaws exist primarily being the choice of the heroine, who doesn’t really suit for the character – a Telugu girl. Secondly, her dubbing doesn’t sync with her lip movement. Editing could have been better in the first half nevertheless the debutant director deserves praise.

Verdict
Bored of cars flying? Bombs? Care for a healthy laugh? Watch ‘Pappu’, the kids might have a better time than the adults, a few jokes might look amateur but what’s life all about, just to laugh it out! Go watch it!

When probed, the reason given was that the sincere farmer had his agricultural commitments to take care of and that was why he had taken the director’s permission to go home to nurture his land. Director Sundaran proudly declared that his singular achievement was making a hero out of a commoner.

Set in the Thittakudi town, the movie follows the life of a waywardly young man (played by Ravi) who decides to take life in his hands in the absence of proper guidance. He makes merry, sleeps with every single willing woman, drinks and gambles and falls in love – or pretends to. And the poor girl (Asvatha) who falls for him loses her virginity, after which she is abandoned by him.

The villagers’ attempt to bring the two together fails miserably and the girl gets married to another hopeless bloke. Now Ravi becomes destitute and seeks penance for having deserted the love of his life.

It’s not only that the director has included many obnoxious scenes in the movie; in the name of twists he has packed it with malicious content. Although there was no justification for those scenes, the fact that he used such scenes makes a huge difference to the movie’s social standing.

You don’t tend to remember any of the performances by the end of the movie, no matter how emotionally dramatic the scenes were. Mainly because Thittakudi has no heart in its right place and comes across as rather hollow.

Director Suntharan probably wanted to give some sort of social message with his movie but the way he scripted the screenplay, the movie sounds more like a wannabe sensationalist.
