Hindi Movie Aao Wish Karein Review

Aao Wish KareinAao Wish Karein is a sweet film with a simple story that reminds of Tom Hanks 1988 film ‘ Big ’ with a refreshingly revised screenplay. 12 year old Mickey’s life was almost like a fairy tale, a beautiful family, best buddy ‘Bonnie’ and his angel on earth – Mitika (Aamna Shariff). But one beautiful day Mickey’s fairy tale gets shattered into million pieces. It was the day he realized he was an adopted child and his 23 year old angel Mitika called him a ‘Kid’. Tired and drained of all emotions he sat all by himself until Hitchcock (Johnny Lever) read his sad story. Mickey was feeling so low that he wished for a Miracle. He wished to become big. That night he walked into his house like a kid. To his astonishment he woke up next morning and realized that his wish had been granted. He had turned big (Aftab Shivdasani). But was this miracle a blessing or a curse in disguise? The story doesn’t waste unnecessary time and gets to the point from the very start. Once Mickey grows up the fun ride begins. The bonding between Mickey and his Sardar friend Bonnie in the hill-station of Shimla has the feel and freshness of Hrithik Roshan’s Koi Mil Gaya . The romance between Mitika and the young-at-heart Mickey is sublime and has its saccharine coated feel-good moments. Of course there are some places where the script tends to get ‘larger-than-life’. It’s a little difficult to digest the fact that when Mickey grows up overnight, he becomes a game designer and is also gifted with a bungalow by his boss for his quick achievements. Also with the romance track taking prominence there’s not much mention on Mickey’s family that resurfaces only in the climax. Cinematographer Keshav Prakash captures the scenic town of Shimla to an eye-pleasing effect.

A twelve-year-old boy wishes to grow BIG overnight. Why? Certainly not to fit into his unloving foster father’s shoes. But to be able to romance his 21-year-old crush who lovingly calls him a bachcha!

Aftab Shivdasani, who hasn’t been able to break into the BIG league in Bollywood, turns writer and producer with Aao Wish Karein, a rip-off of the Tom Hanks’ 1988 Oscar nominated film ‘Big’. But Shivdasani is no Mr. Hanks and ‘Aao Wish Karein’ not a patch on ‘Big’.

12-year-old Mickey is a regular kid in a picturesque hill town nursing a massive crush on the local beauty Mithika (Aamna Sharif) who is 21. Age no bar for love but when Mithika calls Mickey a kid, he’s heartbroken and wishes to grow up overnight.

Pops up Hitchcock (Johnny Lever), dressed up like a pirate from some slum, to grant Mickey’s wish. Presto! The boy of 12 turns into a young man (Aftab Shivdasani) with bulgy biceps. Thereafter he woos his ladylove with gifts, surprise treats and his kiddie antics. But is this love story headed to its logical conclusion – marriage?

The trouble with ‘Aao Wish Karein’ is that it chugs on two tracks and therefore keeps getting derailed every now and then. Is it a movie for the kids or for grown ups? One can’t make out. Perhaps for neither. The tracks involving the kids in the film are aplenty but not the kind that would send the bachcha log in the theatres giggling. And the romantic track between Aftab and Aamna just doesn’t work out for the grown ups.
