Free Online Movie Tough and sorrowful, they offered flawed heroes, usually cops with tarnished ideals and at least a passing connection to who they used to or hoped to be. They were messy, sometimes ugly, reflecting reality rather than polishing it or fantasizing about what it should be.Hollwood Movie

The fact that a film like Brooklyn’s Finest struggled to find backers — and then to land a distribution deal — makes me think that films like Serpico or any of a dozen other gritty cop movies from the 1960s and 1970s — or even a film like Training Day, from the same director — films that enriched the cinema, would never find sponsors in today’s happy-ending, over-amped-editing-addicted atmosphere.

The script was written by Michael C. Martin and Brad Caleb Kane and feels a lot like the burnt-out cop stories that began to sprout in the ’70s, crossed with the dirty-cop movies that have seemingly been around forever. In each of the Brooklyn’s Finest police stories, happening simultaneously throughout the film, these cops have lost all perspective on their jobs yet they seem unashamed and unaware of their own irrational behavior. This is most apparent with a desperate Sal (Ethan Hawke), who pockets money from a dope bust.

Directed by Training Day’s Antoine Fuqua, from a script by Michael Martin (who wrote the gripping, downbeat Sleeper Cell for Showtime), Brooklyn’s Finest follows three cops who are at crisis points in their lives. Each must make a decision — and then live with it.

Sal (Ethan Hawke) is a fearless plainclothes cop with a serious financial problem. The house he shares with his wife (Lili Taylor) and kids is crawling with mold, which is a health hazard for his children and, particularly, for his asthma-afflicted wife.

Then there’s Clarence ‘Tango’ Butler (Don Cheadle), an undercover cop who’s been role playing with the street gangs in and out of prison for so long, that he’s succumbing to a major identity crisis. Deeply into guy bonding with major player druglord Caz (Wesley Snipes), Butler is too conflicted to entrap Caz for good even though offered a big promotion in return, when not pressured to man up and do so by his nagging dragon lady supervisor, played as a snarling venomous viper by Ellen Barkin.

Each characters individual challenge make this male-dominated flick worthwhile and the resulting collision is a brutal ammunition-filled brawl of a movie. Brooklyn’s Finest will meet every-bit of your need for targeted violence and spilling sexuality; especially from newcomer Shannon Kane who spends most of the film in her birthday suite. But the title is a double entendre for the NYPD and may confuse those that associate it with a rap song by Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G. Set in BK, Brooklyn’s Finest is exceptionally produced and evokes greatly a drug-infested environment of East Brooklyn, including community outrage and exploding hostility.

Synopsis: In the course of one chaotic week, the lives of three conflicted New York City police officers are dramatically transformed by their involvement in a massive drug operation in Brooklyn’s Finest, a… In the course of one chaotic week, the lives of three conflicted New York City police officers are dramatically transformed by their involvement in a massive drug operation in Brooklyn’s Finest, a searing new crime drama from acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day).

Burned out veteran Eddie Dugan (Golden Globe®-winner Richard Gere) is just one week away from his pension and a fishing cabin in Connecticut. Narcotics officer Sal Procida (Oscar® nominee Ethan Hawke) has discovered there’s no line he won’t cross to provide a better life for his long-suffering wife and seven children. And Clarence “Tango” Butler (Oscar® nominee Don Cheadle) has been undercover so long his loyalties have started to shift from his fellow police officers to his prison buddy Caz (Wesley Snipes), one of Brooklyn’s most infamous drug dealers. With personal and work pressures bearing down on them, each man faces daily tests of judgment and honor in one of the world’s most difficult jobs.
